‘A young sapling,
spry as spring,
shoots up and out,
energy leaving the ground,
searching for light.
An old tree
stands tall in the light
from many past springs,
no longer stretches up,
but down.
Leaving the sky,
to find water,
in the deep.’
I wanted this painting to feel like an early spring morning, the air is brisk, but hope is on the horizon that warmer days are ahead. This is also a contemplation from a book I love called The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben in which he talks about “the trees that last are the ones that reach deep for water.”
